ATLANTA, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Bronson Arroyo allowed a run on six hits over seven innings Friday, bringing Cincinnati a 3-1 victory over Atlanta.
Arroyo (12-12) won for just the second time in nine starts, putting together a 99-pitch effort that included three walks and four strikeouts.
Cincinnati has won 10 of its last 12 outings, but remains a dozen games below the .500 mark.
Jonny Gomes put the Reds in front with a solo homer in the second and Brandon Phillips contributed an RBI double in a two-run sixth.
The Atlanta run came on Nate McLouth's 16th homer in the sixth.
Derek Lowe (13-9) took the loss, surrendering three runs on seven hits in seven innings. He suffered a defeat for only the second time in his last 11 starts.
