Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Jeff Sluman birdied three of the first four holes on the back nine Friday and shot a 7-under par 65 to lead after one round of the Wal- Mart First Tee Open.
Sluman played his first round at the Del Monte Golf Club, which is one of two courses hosting this event. The other is the famed Pebble Beach Golf Links.
Loren Roberts shared second place with Olin Browne at 66. Mark O'Meara and Tom Kite were both at 67. O'Meara was the only player among the Top 5 to play his first round at Pebble Beach.
Those at 68 included John Cook, Nick Price, Scott Simpson and David Eger.
