Chicago boxer dies in first title fight

SEATTLE, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Doug Fister went a strong 7 1/3 innings Tuesday and the Seattle Mariners beat the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 after being shut out in their previous two games.
Fister (2-1) held the Halos to one run on five hits. Doug Aardsma pitched the ninth for his 32nd save.
Ichiro Suzuki went 2-for-4 after missing eight games with a strained calf muscle.
Mike Sweeney drove in Seattle's first run with a single in the opening inning. The Angels tied the scored in the second on an RBI double by Maicer Izturis but Jose Lopez broke the tie in the seventh with an RBI double to right that scored Franklin Gutierrez from first base.
Darren Oliver (4-1) took the loss in relief of Ervin Santana, who gave up a run on five hits over six innings.
