Detroit Tigers vs. Chicago White Sox

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Dodgers have acquired slugger Jim Thome from the Chicago White Sox, the team said Monday.

Thome -- who has 23 home runs and 74 RBI for the White Sox this season -- goes to the Dodgers in a waiver trade deadline deal that sends infielder Justin Fuller to Chicago. The Dodgers also got cash considerations in the transaction.

Thome has 564 home runs since breaking into the major leagues in 1991.

The Dodgers also announced they have acquired pitcher Jon Garland from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for a player to be named later.

Garland is 8-11 with a 4.29 ERA in 27 starts for Arizona this season.
