HOUSTON, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Houston Astros Tuesday activated infielder Aaron Boone, who had open heart surgery in late March.
Boone, 36, had been on the 60-day disabled list while he recovered from the aortic valve replacement procedure to correct a condition he had since college.
Boone has a one-year deal with Houston. He batted .241 with six home runs and 28 runs batted in through 104 games for Washington last season.
He started light workouts in June, batting practice in late July and a rehabilitation assignment at Class AA Corpus Christi Aug. 10. In 11 games for the Hooks and Class AAA Round Rock, Boone had four hits in 26 at-bats with a double and an RBI.
Boone has a .264 career average with 126 homers and 555 RBI in 1,142 games with Cincinnati, the New York Yankees, Cleveland, Florida and the Nationals.
The Astros also activated pitchers Doug Brocail and Wesley Wright off the 15-day disabled list. Both had sore shoulders.
