DETROIT, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena had three hits, with a homer, and four RBI Monday to lead the Tampa Bay Rays to an 11-7 win over Detroit.
Jason Bartlett and Evan Longoria had three hits, Bartlett had a home run and Longoria scored three runs and had an RBI for the Rays, who scored six times in the first inning.
James Shields (9-10), who won his second straight start, gave up five runs on 10 hits in seven innings.
Carlos Guillen had two home runs and two singles for Detroit, whose AL Central Division lead over second-place Minnesota was cut to 3 1/2 games when the Twins beat the third-place Chicago White Sox 4-2 Monday.
Tigers' starter Jarrod Washburn (9-8) was charged with eight runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings. The left-hander dropped to 1-2 in six starts since joining Detroit in a deal with Seattle.
