Judge awards ex-Red Wing Fedorov $60M

GROSSE POINTE SHORES, Mich., Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Former Detroit Red Wings player Sergei Fedorov is entitled to $60 million from a Michigan man as part of their financial dealings, a judge says.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Kathleen MacDonald ruled Joe Zada should pay Fedorov the $60 million he reportedly agreed to give the NHL player to conclude their decade-long financial relationship, The Detroit Free Press said Monday.

Fedorov, 39, alleged in his lawsuit he entrusted Zada with $43 million to use for investments.

Zada said he wants to give the $60 million to Fedorov as part of an agreement but is currently unable to fulfill his commitment.

Attorney Peter Alter, one of the attorneys representing Fedorov, said Friday's circuit court ruling was a step in the right direction for Fedorov, who also played with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks and Washington Capitals during his NHL career.

"The judgment Friday is an important and necessary step -- but only a step -- in the process of getting justice for Sergei Fedorov," Alter told the Free Press.
