JERSEY CITY, N.J., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Heath Slocum rolled in a 21-foot par putt on the final hole Sunday and won The Barclays tournament in New Jersey by a stroke over Tiger Woods and three others.

Slocum finished with a 4-under-par 67 and an overall score of 9-under 275.

Ernie Els (66), Woods (67), Padraig Harrington (67) and Steve Stricker (69) shared second place.

The tournament was the first event of the FedEx Cup playoff. Slocum's win -- his third on the PGA tour -- jumped him from 24th to third behind Woods and Stricker on the cup points list and earned him $1.35 million.

"That's what is unbelievable about this system," Slocum said. "I was sweating it out last week, not knowing if I'd even be here ... I came in with the attitude that I've got nothing to lose and I'll let it hang out and play the best I can. I got off to a great start and it carried over all week."

Woods missed a 7-foot birdie putt at the final hole and Stricker failed on a 10-footer for par.

"I just misread that one," Woods said. "That's the way it goes."
