MIAMI, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- John Baker's two hits and two RBI Sunday led the Florida Marlins to a 6-4 win over the San Diego Padres.

One hit, a two-run single, matched a two-run single by Cody Ross in the big inning.

A run scored on Tony Gwynn's fourth-inning throwing error and Chris Coghlan added one RBI for the Marlins, who averted a three-game sweep.

Winner Sean West (6-5) gave up three runs and seven hits in six innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.

Leo Nunez earned his 17th save.

Gwynn and Kevin Kouzmanoff had one RBI apiece for San Diego.

Two runs scored on errors.

Oscar Salazar had three of the 10 hits, and Will Venable added two hits for the Padres, who have split their last four games.

Losing pitcher Mat Latos (4-4) surrendered five runs -- two earned -- and four hits in 3 1/3 innings.
