NFL: Detroit 18, Indianapolis 17

DETROIT, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Drew Stanton threw for a touchdown and a conversion in the fourth quarter Saturday to give Detroit an 18-17 pre-season win over Indianapolis.

Daunte Culpepper started for Detroit and was 7-for-12 for 67 yards and a TD and rookie Matthew Stafford was 13-of-19 for 160 yards and an interception. Calvin Johnson had four receptions for 67 yards.

Peyton Manning played the entire first half and the first drive of the third and was 12-for-15 for 123 yards and a touchdown for the Colts. Dallas Clark had six receptions for 63 yards and a touchdown.

With the Colts holding a 7-point lead late in the fourth quarter, Marquand Manuel picked off a Curtis Painter pass to give the Lions the ball near midfield. Three plays later, Stanton and Dan Gronkowski connected for a 21-yard TD.
