MLS: New England 2, San Jose 1

FOXBOROUGH, Mass., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Steve Ralston and Wells Thompson scored second-half goals Saturday in New England's 2-1 Major League Soccer victory against San Jose.

Ralston scored in the 68th minute, breaking a scoreless tie, while Thompson scored in the 74th minute, giving the Revolution (9-6-6) their season-high third straight win.

It secured third place in the Eastern Conference over Toronto FC, which played Seattle to a scoreless tie earlier Saturday.

The Earthquakes (5-12-5) are last in the Western Conference but have split their last four games.

Their goal was scored by Ramon Sanchez in the 90th minute.
