BOSTON, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Clay Buchholz held the Blue Jays to a run and three hits in 8 1/3 innings Saturday in Boston's 3-2 win over Toronto.

Buchholz (3-3) walked two batters and struck out nine in 107 pitches before being relieved by Hideki Okajima. Closer Jonathan Papelbon earned his 32nd save by retiring the final two batters, quelling a ninth-inning Toronto rally.

Boston's Dustin Pedroia, Victor Martinez and Alex Gonzalez each had one RBI.

Pedroia had three hits, and Jacoby Ellsbury two for the Red Sox, who maintained a 4 1/2-game lead over Texas in the American League wild-card chase.

Lyle Overbay led Toronto with two of its five hits and one RBI.

Adam Lind also had one RBI for the Blue Jays, who have lost four of five.

The losing pitcher was starter Ricky Romero (11-6).
