SEATTLE, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Brayan Pena hit the first of four Kansas City home runs Thursday that powered the Royals past Seattle 8-4.
Kansas City needs one more victory to become the last team in the American League to reach 50 wins. Seattle had a three-game winning streak halted.
Pena hit a two-run homer in the first, Yuniesky Betancourt added a solo shot in the fifth and Kansas City then got two-run blasts from Alberto Callaspo in the sixth and David DeJesus in the seventh.
Kyle Davies (5-9) benefited from the homers to get a win after having lost eight of his previous 10 decisions. Davies gave up two runs on five hits over six innings.
Kansas City took an 8-2 lead into the bottom of the ninth before Jack Wilson delivered a two-run home run.
The first three Kansas City homers came off starter and loser Doug Fister (1-1), who surrendered five runs on five hits in six innings.
