ENGLEWOOD, Colo., Aug. 28 (UPI) -- The Denver Broncos said Friday wide receiver Brandon Marshall has been suspended from the team.
The one-sentence statement on the team's Web site said the disciplinary action was taken "for conduct detrimental to the club."
The length of the suspension was not announced but The Denver Post reported it could extend into the regular season, which would cost Marshall some of his salary.
Marshall was videotaped Wednesday kicking away a football rather than giving it to a ball boy, as is team policy. The Post also said Marshall was "lackadaisical" during drills and didn't run routes when other receivers ran them. He also reportedly wasn't at Thursday's workout.
"We tried to handle this situation with Brandon as privately and professionally as we could throughout the entire process with he and his agent, Kennard McGuire," Coach Josh McDaniels told reporters Friday. "The suspension will last through Sept. 5."
Marshall appeared on ESPN Thursday and apologized for "an error in judgment. He said "punting the ball was definitely frustration."
The wide receiver, who has caught more than 100 passes each of the last two seasons, has twice asked for the Broncos to trade him.
Marshall two weeks ago was found not guilty of misdemeanor battery charges stemming from an incident in March 2008 involving a former girlfriend.
Marshall was suspended by the NFL for one game last season because of a series of similar allegations.
