Kuznetsova survives third-set tiebreaker

NEW HAVEN, Conn., Aug. 27 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Svetlana Kuznetsova survived a third-set tiebreaker Wednesday to capture a berth in the quarterfinals of the Pilot Pen in New Haven, Conn.

Kuznetsova, ranked sixth in the world, defeated Yanina Wickmayer 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-2) and will meet Amelie Mauresmo in the quarterfinals Thursday. Kuznetsova won this tournament two years ago and Mauresmo was a finalist in 2005.

No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki moved into the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Virginia Razzano will be Wozniacki's opponent in the quarterfinals.

Third-seeded Flavia Pennetta advanced when Agnieszka Radwanska retired in the third set with a hand injury. Elena Vesnina eliminated Samantha Stosur 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
