PITTSBURGH, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning Wednesday, giving the Philadelphia Phillies a 4-1 decision over Pittsburgh.
The Phillies gave up the tying run in the ninth inning, and then came back to pick up a win that kept them seven games in front of Florida in the National League East.
Steven Jackson (2-3) walked Jimmy Rollins to open the 10th and gave up a single to Shane Victorino. Phil Dumatrait relieved Jackson and got one out before Howard hit his 35th home run of the season.
Philadelphia starter Cole Hamels allowed seven hits over eight shutout innings, but he was deprived of the victory when Ryan Madson served up a two-out homer to Brandon Moss in the ninth inning.
Madson (5-4) also worked the bottom of the 10th to get the win. He was called on in the ninth in place of regular closer Brad Lidge, who suffered his ninth blown save of the season Tuesday.
Philadelphia's other run came on a first-inning homer by Chase Utley, his 27th of the year.
