NEW YORK, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Jorge Posada gave New York a quick start with a three-run homer Wednesday and the Yankees rode a solid effort from Andy Pettitte to a 9-2 win over Texas.
Pettitte (11-6) surrendered two runs on five hits and struck out seven in a seven-inning stint. He has not lost since July 25 and has given up two runs or fewer in five of his last six starts.
Posada's homer came in the second inning and the Yankees broke things open with a five-run seventh that featured two-run singles by Derek Jeter and Mark Teixeira.
Posada left the game in the eighth inning after taking a foul tip off his glove hand.
The loss went to Derek Holland (7-8), who allowed six runs on seven hits in six-plus innings. He had won his previous three starts.
Michael Young extended the longest active hitting streak in the majors to 13 games.
Pettitte's win was his 189th in a New York uniform and the 226th of his career. He is tied with Lefty Gomez for third place on the Yankees' all-time victory list.
