SEATTLE, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- Ian Snell turned in his second straight excellent outing with his new team Monday, carrying the Seattle Mariners to a 3-1 decision over Oakland.
Snell improved to 2-1 since being traded from Pittsburgh, allowing a run on four hits over six innings. In his previous appearance, Snell held Detroit to a run on four hits in 5 2/3 innings. He is 4-9 for the season.
All of the Seattle runs came on homers -- a solo shot by Jose Lopez in the third and a two-run blast from Ken Griffey Jr. in the fifth.
Both home runs came off Vin Mazzaro (4-9).
David Aardsma gave up a leadoff double in the ninth, but retired the next three batters to collect his 29th save.
The Mariners played without Ichiro Suzuki, who was suffering from a tight calf muscle. Suzuki is 16 hits shy of reaching 200 hits for a ninth consecutive season.
