NEW YORK, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Jayson Werth and Carlos Ruiz hit three-run homers Sunday in a 9-7 Philadelphia win over the New York Mets that ended with a triple-play.
The Mets, trailing by three, got a ninth-inning run in a rally that died when Jeff Francoeur lined into a triple-play started by second-baseman Eric Bruntlett.
Werth's 29th homer began a six-run Philadelphia' explosion in the first inning that was capped by Ruiz's shot.
Jimmy Rollins and winner Pedro Martinez had one RBI apiece for the Phillies.
Martinez (2-0) gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings.
New York's Angel Pagan hit two solo homers -- one an inside-the-park shot in the first.
Luis Castillo and Daniel Murphy had three hits and one RBI each.
The losing pitcher was Oliver Perez (3-4).
