MLB: Oakland 3, Detroit 2

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Kurt Suzuki drove in the winning run with a ninth-inning single Saturday to give the Oakland Athletics a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Andrew Bailey (6-3) pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn the win. Oakland starter Trevor Cahill, allowed two runs on five hits and three walks in seven innings.

Adam Kennedy, who scored the winning run, had three hits. Suzuki and Ryan Sweeney each had two hits for the Athletics.

Zach Miner (5-4) took the loss for Detroit, which had won six of eight going into Saturday's game. Tigers starter Armando Galarraga gave up two runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings.

Miguel Cabrera and Carlos Guillen each had an RBI for Detroit.
