PITTSBURGH, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Injured Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's status apparently was uncertain for the Steeler's pre-season game in Washington Saturday.

Roethlisberger's right foot was stepped on in practice by offensive tackle Max Starks. There was no official word from the Steelers on the extent of the injury, but Coach Mike Tomlin had said Roethlisberger would be OK.

The quarterback's status for the game against the Redskins was undecided, ESPN reported Friday.

Roethlisberger traveled with the team to Washington, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said.

ESPN reported the quarterback complained of considerable pain, but later said it had begun to subside.

A team source said an initial medical examination Thursday night revealed no significant damage but Roethlisberger was to be re-examined.
