SEATTLE, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Shalrie Joseph scored in the 21st minute Thursday and Matt Reis made the goal stand up, giving the New England Revolution a 1-0 MLS win over Seattle.

The Revolution moved within a point of D.C. United for fourth place in the Eastern Conference and have two games in hand against United.

Seattle missed a chance to move a point ahead of Los Angeles for second place in the West.

Joseph took a pass into the box from Edgaras Jankauskas and, with defender Peter Vagenas trying to take the ball away, managed to fire a shot that got past Kasey Keller.

Reis recorded his sixth shutout of the season.
