Twins send Morneau for inner-ear tests

MINNEAPOLIS, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Twins have sent first baseman Justin Morneau back to Minneapolis from Arlington, Texas, to be examined by a specialist for an inner-ear infection.

The all-star slugger had been plagued by spells of dizziness while the Twins were in Arlington facing the Texas Rangers this week.

The dizziness likely comes from lingering effects of a right inner-ear infection Morneau first noticed Aug. 9 when the Twins were in Detroit, the team said on its Web site late Thursday.

He was given new medication by Rangers' doctors Tuesday to help treat the symptoms, but they proved ineffective.

"At times I start to feel better, and then it comes back again," Morneau said. "Mostly (doctors) just say it will take time and it should go away eventually. I'd like it to go away quicker than it is."
