PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Ryan Howard drove in Philadelphia's first run of the game and added a three-run homer Thursday, helping power the Phillies past Arizona 12-3.
The division-leading Phillies produced 12 hits and got a solid start from Joe Blanton to win their fourth straight game.
Philadelphia took a quick 3-0 lead only to have the Diamondbacks tie it in the fourth. The Phillies went back in front in the bottom half of the inning, however, when Blanton drove in a run with a ground out.
Jayson Werth added a two-run homer for Philadelphia in the fifth and the Phillies broke things open with a five-run sixth that included Howard's 32nd homer of the season. Carlos Ruiz added a solo shot in the sixth.
Blanton (8-6) allowed three runs through eight innings and then gave way to Chad Durbin in the ninth in a non-save situation.
Doug Davis (7-10) suffered the loss, giving up five hits and five runs in five innings.
