SAN DIEGO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Kyle Blanks had an inside-the-park home run for the San Diego Padres Tuesday in their 6-3 win over the struggling Chicago Cubs.
Adrian Gonzalez also homered for the Padres and Kevin Kouzmanoff notched two RBI.
Cesar Carrillo (1-1) picked up the win in his second major league start, allowing three runs on seven hits in six innings. Heath Bell got his 30th save.
The Cubs, who lost for the seventh time in their last nine games, got a solo home run from Derrek Lee in the first inning and two hits from starting pitcher Ryan Dempster.
Dempster (6-7) struck out 10 but took the loss, allowing four runs on eight hits over seven innings.
San Diego was leading 4-3 in the eighth when Blanks's liner to left-center took an odd bounce and skittered along the wall toward right field. Blanks chugged home ahead of the throw to close out the scoring.
