MLB: Boston 6, Toronto 1

TORONTO, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Clay Buchholz got the best of Toronto ace Roy Halladay by allowing a run through six innings Wednesday, carrying Boston to a 6-1 decision over the Blue Jays.

Toronto and Boston reportedly had lengthy trade discussions last month in a deal that would have sent Halladay to the Red Sox. The Blue Jays hoped to get Buchholz in the would-be deal, but Boston would not let go of the 25-year prospect.

Buchholz (2-3), making his seventh start of the season, allowed six hits and struck out four.

Halladay (13-6) coughed up five runs on eight hits in only five innings.

David Ortiz got Boston going with a solo homer in the second and the Red Sox got a two-run homer from Jason Bay in the fifth and a solo blast from Victor Martinez in the ninth.

Boston, which shared the wild-card lead with Texas at the start of the evening, won its second straight.

Toronto has lost four in a row.
