BUFFALO, N.Y., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Chicago Blackhawks hockey star Patrick Kane likely won't face felony charges in a deal being hammered out in Buffalo, N.Y., legal sources say.
Kane, 20, and his cousin James Kane, 21, were charged with felonies this month for allegedly attacking a cab driver in their hometown of Buffalo in a dispute over a fare. But a plea deal being arranged with prosecutors says the pair will only be indicted on misdemeanors and may see the charges dropped, unnamed law enforcement sources told Tuesday's Buffalo News.
Sources told the News attorneys for the Kanes and prosecutors are negotiating a plea deal in which the pair would plead guilty to misdemeanor charges such as harassment or disorderly conduct, or they may be granted an adjournment that could see the charges later dropped.
Neither Kane would face any jail time, the newspaper said.
"I think everything is going to be wrapped up by the end of the week," one law enforcement source told the News. "All parties are working in that direction."
Patrick Kane issued a public apology Monday, begging forgiveness from his family, the city of Buffalo, and the Chicago Blackhawks and their fans, the newspaper said.
