OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 18 (UPI) -- Brett Tomko pitched five scoreless innings against his former team Monday to help the Oakland Athletics beat the New York Yankees 3-0.
Tomko (2-2) allowed five hits and one walk, and struck out one batter. The Yankees gave him his release last month and the A's signed him Aug. 5.
Andrew Bailey earned his 18th save in Oakland's second straight win.
Scott Hairston had two hits and scored a run for the A's, who also got an RBI apiece from Kurt Suzuki and Mark Ellis.
New York starter A.J. Burnett (10-6) gave up three runs on six hits in eight innings to take the loss.
Derek Jeter had three hits for the Yankees.
Rajai Davis opened the home half of the fourth with a double and then stole third before scoring on a single by Suzuki -- who scored on a balk by Burnett after Hairston reached on a single. Ellis drove in Hairston with a double to cap the scoring.
