SEATTLE, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- Derek Jeter and Nick Swisher each hit a home run and had two RBI Saturday in the New York Yankees' fifth straight win, a 5-2 decision over Seattle.

The Yankees benefited from an error and went on to score four runs in the second inning in a win that raised their record to 74-43, the best in the majors.

Sergio Mitre (2-1), who picked up his first victory in five starts, gave up both Mariners' runs, one of them earned. Mitre surrendered seven hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings. Mariano Rivera earned his 31st consecutive save and his 35th overall.

The Mariners, who have lost four of their last five, got an RBI each from Jose Lopez and Rob Johnson.

Luke French (2-3) gave up four runs -- none earned -- on seven hits and three walks in six innings.

Seattle scored in the first when Lopez hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Ichiro Suzuki.

The costly Mariners' error came when Franklin Gutierrez botched a routine fly to right-center field, and that put runners on first and second with one out. Molina's RBI single tied it, followed by a sacrifice fly by Jeter and a two-run homer by Swisher, putting New York ahead 4-1.

Johnson drove in Seattle's second and final run in the fourth inning.

Jeter's solo homer in the ninth gave the Yankees their fifth run.
