MIAMI, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Joe Johnson took a no-hitter into the seventh Friday, and Florida survived a ninth-inning Colorado rally to defeat the Rockies 6-5.
The Marlins remained within 4 1/2 games of division-leading Philadelphia in the National League East, but crept within two games of the Rockies for the top spot in the wild card race. San Francisco is 1 1/2 games behind Colorado.
Johnson (12-2) allowed two walks and struck out 11 through six innings, then retired the first two batters in the seventh. Garrett Atkins ended Johnson's bid for a no-hitter by blasting a 3-2 pitch over the wall in left.
After issuing a one-out walk in the eighth, Johnson was relieved by Renyel Pinto.
Florida took a 6-1 lead into the ninth, but Troy Tulowitzki tripled and scored on a fielding error by third baseman Wes Helms. After Ian Stewart reached on an infield single, Chris Iannetta hit a two-out, three-run homer to bring the Rockies within one.
Leo Nunez then earned his 13th save by getting Todd Helton to fly out to end the game.
Jason Hammel (7-7) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs on six hits in four innings.
Nick Johnson drove in two Florida runs with a double and a sacrifice fly, and Dan Uggla hit a two-run homer in the seventh.
