MLB: Kansas City 5, Minnesota 4

MINNEAPOLIS, Calif., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Willie Bloomquist drove in two runs and Alex Gordon hit a solo homer Thursday, pacing a 5-4 Kansas City win over the Minnesota Twins.

Billy Butler added an RBI for the Royals, who handed the Twins their ninth defeat in 12 games.

Gil Meche (5-9), in his first appearance since recently coming off the disabled list, got the win, allowing four runs and seven hits in five innings. Joakim Sona tossed two scoreless innings to notch his 19th save this season.

Joe Mauer slammed a three-run homer and drove in all of Minnesota's runs.

Loser Carl Pavano (10-9) gave up all five Kansas City runs and five hits. He struck out six.
