MLB: Detroit 2, Boston 0

BOSTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Detroit's Justin Verlander hurled eight scoreless innings Thursday en route to a 2-0 Tigers victory over the Boston Red Sox.

Verlander (13-6) yielded four hits and struck out eight batters before he was replaced by Fernando Rodney, who racked up his 24th save of the season.

Ryan Raburn drove in Detroit's runs with a solo homer and infield hit.

Clay Buchholz (1-3) took the loss, allowing two runs and five hits in seven innings.

Victor Martinez had two of Boston's four hits.

The loss was Boston's seventh in 10 games.
