MALIA, Greece, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A witness says the teenage brother of a British soccer star appeared drunk before dying in what police say was an accidental fall on the Greek island of Crete.

Andre Young, 17, of Saffron Walden in Essex was found dead at a construction site in Malia, a resort on the north coast of Crete, the Daily Mail reported Thursday. He was last seen late Monday when a witness described him as "proper drunk' and said he was staggering as he walked off alone.

Young is the half-brother of Luke Young, a defender for the English soccer team Aston Villa. He had gone to Crete with a group of friends and planned to start his first year at university next week.

"He was a tremendous and talented person and a diligent student and this is such a waste of a promising life," Luke Young said in a statement.

The soccer player also asked anyone who had seen his brother in his final hours to talk to police investigating the death. His body had serious head injuries, suggesting he suffered a fatal fall and police said his death did not appear to be suspicious in nature.

The teen's parents flew to Crete to identify the body.
