LOUISVILLE, Ky., Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Louisville basketball Coach Rick Pitino told police he had consensual sex with the woman accusing him of rape and paid for her abortion, police reports said.

Pitino denied Karen Cunagin Sypher's allegations that she was raped at the end of a night of drinking at a restaurant in 2003. However, he did tell investigators he had consensual sex with her on more than one occasion.

Pitino's version of events was detailed in Louisville Metro Police reports obtained under the Kentucky Open Records Act by The (Louisville, Ky.) Courier-Journal.

The newspaper reported Wednesday that detectives raised concerns about Sypher's credibility after turning up a witness -- Pitino's executive assistant, Vinny Tatum -- who told the FBI he heard what he considered to be the sounds of consensual sex after the restaurant closed.

Prosecutors decided not to file charges against Pitino and Sypher was charged this year with extortion. She raised the rape allegation after her indictment by a federal grand jury, The Courier-Journal said.
