BOSTON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Mike Lowell homered twice and drove in three runs Tuesday and the Boston Red Sox beat Detroit 7-5 in a game marred by a bench-clearing melee.
Jason Bay hit a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who have taken the first two games of a four game set at home after losing six straight.
Lowell was in the game as a replacement for Kevin Youkilis, who was ejected for igniting the brawl.
Junichi Tazawa (1-1), making his first major league start, gave up three runs on four hits in five innings, with two walks and six strikeouts to get the win for Boston.
Curtis Granderson had a two-run home run and the Tigers got an RBI apiece from Brandon Inge, Magglio Ordonez and Carlos Guillen in their third loss in four games.
Chris Lambert (0-1) gave up five runs on five hits in five innings of relief to get the loss.
Lambert came in for Detroit starter Rick Porcello, who was ejected after giving up one run and one hit in one-plus innings.
Porcello was ejected after hitting Youkilis with a pitch and Youkilis charged the mound, taking Porcello down to the ground as players poured out of both dugouts.
