MLB: Atlanta 8, Washington 1

ATLANTA, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Rookie Tommy Hanson struck out nine over 6 2/3 innings Tuesday to help the Atlanta Braves subdue the Washington Nationals 8-1.

It was Washington's first loss in nine games after the Nationals' longest winning streak in more than four years.

Hanson (7-2) gave up one run on seven hits. Braves pitching struck out 13 Nationals.

Ryan Church was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Chipper Jones scored twice and hit a solo home run for the Braves, who have won four straight.

John Lannan (8-9) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits with four walks over 4 2/3 frames.

Nyjer Morgan went 2-for-4 with the lone run scored and Ryan Zimmerman had the RBI for the Nationals.
