Tommie Harris' wife dies

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Ryan Sweeney hit a three-run homer in a four-run second inning Sunday, spurring Oakland's 6-3 victory against Kansas City.
Sweeney's fifth homer, his only hit, capped the four-run outburst with one out in the top of the second.
Bobby Crosby hit two solo homers and Kurt Suzuki drove in one run for the Athletics, who have won five of seven.
Winner Brett Anderson (7-8) gave up three runs and six hits in six innings with a walk and five strikeouts. Closer Andrew Bailey earned his 16th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Mitch Maier, Josh Anderson and Brayan Pena had one RBI apiece for the Royals, who have lost five of seven.
The losing pitcher was starter Luke Hochevar (6-5).
