
CHICAGO, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Jim Thome hit a two-run homer to help the Chicago White Sox overcome a four-run deficit and beat the Cleveland Indians 8-5.
Thome's blast came in a four-run fifth inning in which Carlos Quentin added a two-run double.
Carlos Torres, called up from the minors before the game, gave up four runs on three hits and six walks in 3 1/3 innings. D.J. Carrasco (4-1) earned the win for 2 1/3 scoreless innings.
Asdrubal Cabrera went 3-for-4 for the Indians, who had won 10 of their previous 14 games. Jhonny Peralta drove in two runs in the loss.
Justin Masterson, in his first start for Cleveland, gave up one run on four hits in four innings. Tomo Ohka allowed four runs in one-third of an inning.
Jess Todd (0-1), who gave up a run in the sixth, was charged with the loss.
