ALMELO, Netherlands, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Two female water polo players in the Netherlands allegedly attempted to kill an opponent during a match, authorities say.
The two players, who are sisters, have been charged in relation to the alleged water polo attack last October and are due to appear in court in the Dutch city of Almelo at an unspecified date, Radio Netherlands reported Friday.
The sisters, ages 16 and 22, allegedly responded to a goal scored by an opponent by holding that individual underwater until other players intervened. The names of the two suspects were not reported.
The victim of the alleged attack in the Dutch province of Gelderland suffered post-traumatic stress syndrome and has been unable to play in water polo matches, Radio Netherlands reported.
A court session on Thursday for the two sisters, who have been expelled from their water polo club, was postponed after the siblings' attorney became ill.
