NASHVILLE, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- Members of the NFL's Tennessee Titans will wear a No. 9 decal on the back of their helmets this season in honor of Steve McNair.
The quarterback wore the number during 11 seasons with the franchise before ending his career with the Baltimore Ravens.
"Through many internal discussions, we felt this was an appropriate way to honor Steve McNair and the contributions he made to our franchise," team owner Bud Adams said. "We have other things planned for our fans to honor him and the McNair family, and we take some solace in the fact that we were able to induct him into our Ring of Honor last season, while he was with us."
He was shot to death in Nashville by a young woman on July 4 in what police called a murder/suicide.
In 13 seasons, the four-time Pro Bowl pick and former co-MVP passed 30,000 yards and ran for 3,500 yards.
