RENO, Nev., Aug. 7 (UPI) -- John Rollins took advantage of ideal scoring conditions Friday to post a 10-under 62 that gave him the lead after 36 holes of the Legends Reno-Tahoe Open.
Blustery winds made the Montreux Golf and Country Club course a challenge Thursday, and nobody did better than 67. It was the highest first-round leading score in the history of the event.
Conditions improved Friday, and Rollins took full advantage by recording eight birdies and an eagle. He stood at 12-under 132 after two rounds, two shots in front of former PGA Championship winner Shaun Micheel.
Among those tied for third at 136 was Chris Riley, who played the first nine holes Friday in 9-under 27. Riley was in excellent position to become the fourth player to break 60 in a PGA Tour event and even had a chance to fire a 58, which would have been the lowest score ever on the circuit.
Riley, however, bogeyed the 10th and 11th holes and eventually settled for a 64. He was tied at 136 with Robert Garrigus and Marc Leishman.
First-round leader Rod Pampling shot a 70 and was among those at 137.
