MLB: Texas 6, Oakland 4

OAKLAND, Calif., Aug. 6 (UPI) -- Michael Young had two hits -- one a solo homer -- Thursday, leading the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 win over Oakland.

His 18th homer came in the third inning, and his second RBI of the game came on a

fifth-inning single.

Hank Blalock hit a solo homer.

David Murphy and Andruw Jones had two hits and one RBI apiece, while Marlon Byrd added one RBI for the Rangers, who avoided a three-game sweep.

Winner Tommy Hunter (4-2) yielded three runs and three hits in seven innings.

Closer C.J. Wilson earned his 14th save.

Oakland's Nomar Garciaparra, Rajai Davis and Scott Hairston each had one hit and one RBI.

A run scored on Jarrod Saltalamacchia's first-inning error for the Athletics.

The A's, who have split their last six games, had only five hits.

Losing pitcher Trevor Cahill (6-11) surrendered five runs and eight hits in six innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
