AKRON, Ohio, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Tiger Woods will seek his second consecutive victory beginning Thursday at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational.
The event will be played at the Firestone Country Club's South Course, where Woods has posted six victories.
After missing the cut at the British Open, Woods added last week's Buick Open to his schedule and rallied over the final three rounds to his fourth win in 11 appearances this season.
That victory came against a field that included only one other member of the top 10 on the FedEx Cup points list. This week, however, 49 of the top 50 players in the world will be present.
That group includes the winners of the three major championships played this year -- Angel Cabrera, Lucas Glover and Stewart Cink. Phil Mickelson will also return to action after a prolonged absence brought on by both his wife and mother being diagnosed with breast cancer.
Woods will be paired with Carl Pettersson and Sergio Garcia for the first two rounds. Mickelson will play in the company of Camilo Villegas and Ernie Els.
Defending champion Vijay Singh will also be present, as will the three players who are behind the No. 1 Woods on the FedEx list -- Steve Stricker, Kenny Perry and Zach Johnson.
