PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 5 (UPI) -- The Portland Trailblazers have signed all-star guard Brandon Roy to a five-year contract extension, Yahoo! Sports said Wednesday.
The 6-foot-6 inch former University of Washington product, a first-round pick by the Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2006 NBA Draft, totaled 22.6 points and more than five assists in 78 games last season while leading the Trailblazers to the Western Conference quarterfinals against the Houston Rockets.
He told KJR radio in Seattle last month that he was frustrated and disappointed with the Trailblazers handling of his contract extension negotiations.
"I sit back and think about all the hard work I've put into my dream," the 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year said in the interview. "I've done everything I can do to get a max contract."
The (Portland) Oregonian said Portland officials will hold a news conference Thursday.
