MLB: San Francisco 10, Houston 6

HOUSTON, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Eli Whiteside's only hit Wednesday, a sixth-inning grand slam, boosted the San Francisco Giants to a 10-6 win over Houston.

Whiteside's first major league homer snapped a 3-3 tie with one out in the bottom of the sixth.

One of Pablo Sandoval's three hits, a third-inning two-run single, erased a 3-0 deficit. Ryan Garko had two hits and two RBI, John Bowker had one RBI, while Freddy Sanchez had three hits for the Giants, who have won four of five.

Winner Joe Martinez (2-0), making his first major league start, surrendered three runs and seven hits in five innings.

Houston got two RBI each from Hunter Pence and Jason Michaels, with Pence belting a two-run homer.

Jeff Keppinger and Kaz Matsui had one RBI apiece, while Pence and Carlos Lee had two hits for the Astros, who have lost six of eight.

The losing pitcher was starter Brian Moehler (7-7).
