Mayweather's uncle jailed on battery rap

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The uncle of champion U.S. boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr., is facing coercion and battery charges, documents indicate.

Police reports show Roger Mayweather, 48, was arrested Sunday in Las Vegas, accused of attacking a female boxer he once trained, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported.

The reports indicated police responded to an emergency call from a screaming woman and found Mayweather holding a woman, identified as Melissa St. Vil. Police identified St. Vil as a boxer who once trained with Mayweather.

The Review-Journal said St. Vil claimed she wouldn't allow Mayweather to enter the apartment after he knocked on the door, which Mayweather disputed, saying the door was open. Police claimed in the report that Mayweather had a key because he was the landlord.

Police wrote that Mayweather was upset his tenant was allowing St. Vil to live in the apartment. He allegedly prevented her from leaving, forcing her into the living room, punching her several times in the ribs and wrapping his hands around her throat, "causing her to nearly pass out," the Review Journal said.

Roger Mayweather, like his famous nephew, is a former professional boxer, the newspaper said.
