
CINCINNATI, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Tom Gorzelanny gave up one run in 7 1/3 innings Tuesday in his first start since joining the Chicago Cubs last week, for a 6-3 victory over Cincinnati.
Gorzelanny (4-1), recalled from Triple-A Iowa before the game, allowed just three hits in his first start since Sept. 10, 2008. It was his first win as a starter since June 24, 2008.
He also had his first hit and RBI since June 12, 2008. The Cubs won for the fifth time in seven games and remained tied for first in the NL Central with St. Louis.
Kosuke Fukudome and Koyie Hill had two hits and two RBI each. Both Fukudome and Derrek Lee homered in the win.
Loser Johnny Cueto (8-9) allowed five runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings.
Wladimir Balentien had a two-run homer for the Reds, who have lost 14 of their last 15 games.
