DETROIT, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Nick Markakis and Cesar Izturis each had three hits and three RBI Tuesday to lead the Baltimore Orioles to an 8-2 win over the Detroit Tigers.
Brian Matusz (1-0), the fourth overall selection in the 2008 draft, was recalled from Double-A Bowie to make his first start. The left-hander gave up one run on six hits and three walks in five innings.
Markakis and Izturis each homered and Melvin Mora and Matt Wieters each had an RBI for Baltimore.
Jarrod Washburn (8-7) made his debut for Detroit after the club acquired the veteran from Seattle last week. But Washburn, named the American League pitcher of the month for July Tuesday, allowed six runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Magglio Ordonez went 2-for-5 with an RBI for the Tigers.
