ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 4 (UPI) -- The Arena Football League will suspend its operations indefinitely and declare bankruptcy, media reports Tuesday indicated.
The Orlando Sentinel reported Brett Bouchy, majority owner of the Arizona Rattlers, said the teetering indoor football league expects to go into Chapter 7 liquidation.
Columbus Destroyers majority partner Jim Renacci told The Columbus Dispatch owners couldn't agree on a plan to revive the league. The newspaper said a super majority of three-quarters of the league's 17 remaining teams was needed to approve any proposal and that a formal announcement was expected within the next day.
The Arena Football League, founded in 1987, suspended operations for the 2009 season last December, six months after David Baker resigned as commissioner. The league said it was trying to develop a long-term plan to improve its business model.
