NEW YORK, Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Angels first baseman Kendry Morales' .423 batting average last week earned him American League player-of-the-week honors Monday.

In going 11-for-26, Morales clubbed five home runs and drove in 13 RBI -- best in the majors. His six RBI against Minnesota Sunday were a career-high.

It was the switch-hitting Cuban's first career weekly honor. He beat out Boston's Josh Beckett, Seattle's Jose Lopez and Baltimore's Adam Jones.
